This graphic passed through on my Facebook feed the other day. I had never given much thought to my shoelaces, unless they were pulled too tight. So, I decided to test it out. Since, I have high arches, lacing technique number 3 was the obvious choice for me. Fortunately, I don't have any black toenails to worry about and my current shoes don't slip off my heel. To be honest, my shoes don't usually bother the tops of my arches but, it took about a minute to re-lace my sneakers, so what the heck. So, I noticed right away that the tops of my feet felt like they had more room which was a pleasant surprise. I was a little distracted by the fact that my right side was tied tighter than my left but fortunately it was only 3 miles and I chose to get over it. Was this a life changing discovery? No, but I think it could definitely make a bigger difference for those suffering from black toenails (mom) or shoes that slip off their feet.
I have a race on Saturday and am hoping to do some snooping to see any of the other runners have any fancy lace-work on their sneakers. If you try one of these techniques or have one not pictured above, please share! I would love to hear about it.
